The second installment of the Elementary Methods Workshop, participants on this day will be introduced to Edwin Gordon’s Music Learning Theory (MLT) as it applies to early- and middle-childhood general music. Songs, chants, movement activities, learning sequence activities and a host of other strategies will be presented in conjunction with explanations of MLT’s general theoretical principles and skill sequences. Participants will spend the day exploring the main tenets of Gordon’s Music Learning Theory and experiencing practical applications of the theory through classroom activities modeled by the presenter.
The Elementary Methods Workshop spends 5 days throughout the summer exploring the methods of Orff, Kodály, Dalcroze and Gordon in the general music classroom, as well as other early childhood techniques. These single-day workshops will give an overview of each of these music education approaches and will include demonstrations and discussion of classroom applications with practicing teachers. Register for a single day, multiple days, or the entire week.
