The Exemplary Solo Recognition Project expands recognition of outstanding student soloists at the WSMA State Solo & Ensemble Festival. State festival adjudicators identify exceptional soloists at each of the state festival campuses through a two step process: nomination and final selection. Students who are selected for the award receive a certificate from WSMA in recognition of their outstanding performance at the State Festival.
Step 1. Nomination
Throughout the day, adjudicators have an opportunity to nominate soloists whose performance was truly exceptional – beyond what is typically expected for this age group.
CHANGE for 2017: In an effort to accurately reflect nominated performances, nominations will no longer be posted as part of the rating on festival day, but instead will be displayed on the WSMA website on the Tuesday following the festival.
Step 2. Final Selection
At the end of the day, each adjudicator selects the most exceptional soloist(s) to receive the Exemplary Soloist Award from among those nominated. These results are posted on the WSMA website approximately 2 business days after the festival.
