Your first few years as a music teacher can be overwhelming, to say the least. We’ll be sharing practical tips for classroom management, time management, organization, using instruments without setting fires, lesson planning, establishing classroom processes…basically everything we do. It’s taken us years to refine how we do things – and we’re still learning – so rather than reinvent the wheel for yourself, join us and get some great resources and ideas you can implement right away.
Date: June 19-20, 2017 – 9:00 am to 4:30 pm each day
Location: Wisconsin Center for Music Education
Sarah Bresnahan and Katie Kelso are regular people, like you, who enjoy teaching music to kids. Over their combined years of teaching music, they’ve compiled many ninja hacks for the things they just don’t teach you at college. Working smarter, not harder, to create a student-centered classroom that is efficient, organized, and thoughtful is how it should be done.
Sarah currently teaches with the Muskego-Norway schools. Before joining the district in 2016, she taught in Slinger, WI and the Philadelphia Charter School system in PA. She also brings with her experiences from her background in performance and business. Sarah currently holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
Katie joined the Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District in 2002 after being part of the Milwaukee Charter School system. With degrees from Carthage College and Mount Mary University, Katie is also a founding member of the chamber ensemble Musici Amici as well as a past member of several performing groups in Southeastern WI. Aside from education and performance experience, Katie also brings time spent in business and technology.
