Learn exactly how to present and run a school drum circle, down to the minute. From the warm-up, philosophy, rules, lesson and closure/grounding, to your role as the teacher. Jim has taught week long classes in Milwaukee, La Crosse, Madison and Appleton. Native American, Middle Eastern, Afro-Cuban, Irish, Brazilian and Japanese drum circles (and more) will be presented as we play, read, compose and improvise!

Jim Knutson, whether playing classical, world or jazz music, is a “pleasant rhythmic beast”! Jim taught HS band for 35 years, 20 at Onalaska and wears many musical hats. He currently directs 3 bell choirs, plays drums in a praise band and has taught World Music classes in Milwaukee, Appleton and Madison. His 10 piece CR Steel Band has recorded 2 CDs and his HS Jazz All-Stars are in their 13th season. Jim has played at the Beethoven Music Fest for Dale Warland and with the JP Big Band at the JEN (jazz) conference in Louisville. Jim has solo vibes arrangements published through RGM and is in the Austin HS Music Hall of Fame. His jazz quartet, Latin Vibe, just released it’s first CD, Live at the Starlite. Jim also plays with and has soloed with the La Crosse Symphony and the La Crosse Concert Band and has directed or played in Europe, China, Mexico, Canada, Haiti and on the paddleboats between Dubuque and La Crosse. In July Jim is taking the La Crosse Bell Choir to Europe!

Participants who attend this workshop have the opportunity to earn one graduate credit for an additional fee of $220. This is a separate registration and fee from the workshop registration.
