Using the WMEA Standards in Your Classroom! – July 21-23, 2019 (Green Bay)

May 7, 2019 By lfellenz

Join us in Green Bay this summer as we explore the 2019 WMEA Wisconsin Music Standards!  This workshop will examine the WMEA State Music Standards and provide an opportunity for participants to see how master teachers design curriculum and instruction in band, choir, orchestra, and K-12 general music.  Additional areas of discussion will include the recently added Secondary General, Connecting, Technology, and Use with CMP sections.

But wait….there’s more!  After reviewing the WMEA Wisconsin Music Standards, you will have the opportunity to collaborate and design meaningful instruction for your school and classroom.  You can look at a piece of music, plan for one class or grade level, and or plan a project-based unit.  Ultimately, you will design meaningful instruction that will help maximize your students’ capacities to learn and grow as musicians and individuals.

Dates: Sunday, July 21 (12 p.m. – 4 p.m.); Monday, July 22 (9 a.m. – 4 p.m.), and Tuesday, July 23 (9 a.m. – 4 p.m.)

Location: CESA 7 – Green Bay (Sunday & Monday) and Ashwaubenon Community Center (Tuesday)

Instructors: Selected members of the WMEA Standards Committee: Paul Budde, UWRF; Christine Hayes, Whitewater; Kate Mitchell, Pewaukee; Leyla Sanyer, Verona; Richard Tengowski, Kohler; Aimee Swanson, East Troy

An educational collaboration by WSMA and PBS Wisconsin Education

Re/sound: Songs of Wisconsin
In a state-wide survey and listening sessions with music educators, we learned about the need for current, authentic, culturally diverse resources, as well as support in teaching with and about music from different cultures. This multimedia collection for general music programs serving grades 4-8 includes video interviews with Wisconsin musicians, performances, audio files, and educator engagement guides designed to help activate the media with learners.
