Brass/Woodwind Instruments: Maintenance, Budgeting, Evaluation and Emergency Repairs – Feb. 16-17 CANCELLED

In this 2 day hands on session attendees will learn how to straighten minor bent keys, properly replace a missing key cork, replace a cork joint, how to install a pad on a flute, sax and clarinet, and what types of emergency repairs they can  make a quick fix but not ruin the instrument. You will also learn a proper maintenance schedule for all woodwind instruments, procedures you can teach your students to help with proper maintenance and some ideas how to budget for future repairs.

February 17, 2018 – 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Bernadette P. Gonzalez is a Chicago native and earned her Bachelor of Music Education from Western Illinois University in 2003. Before beginning her career in band instrument repair, Bernadette taught band and general music for the Milwaukee Public Schools. She is a 2008 graduate of the Band Instrument Repair Program in Red Wing, MN and immediately began working at Melk Music in Milwaukee, WI as a woodwind technician. She is an active member as a clarinetist and President of the Lakeshore Symphonic Band. She currently teaches privately in the Cedarburg WI area.

Graduate Credit Information

Participants who attend this workshop have the opportunity to earn one graduate credit for an additional fee of $220. This is a separate registration and fee from the workshop registration. Please download a copy of the Viterbo registration form and mail it with a check for $220 (payable to Viterbo University) to:

Re/sound: Songs of Wisconsin
In a state-wide survey and listening sessions with music educators, we learned about the need for current, authentic, culturally diverse resources, as well as support in teaching with and about music from different cultures. This multimedia collection for general music programs serving grades 4-8 includes video interviews with Wisconsin musicians, performances, audio files, and educator engagement guides designed to help activate the media with learners.
