Ukulele for the Young Musician – July 18, 2019

May 7, 2019 By lfellenz

Join Will Ulrich as he shares how to start a ukulele program in your school: purchasing and maintaining ukeleles, ukulele resources, games, classroom setup, finding performance opportunities, and teaching methods. If you’ve never played ukulele, this workshop is for you.

If you’ve been playing ukulele, this workshop is for you. Learn about chords, strumming patterns, and basic soloing tips. All participants will have access to Will’s entire ukulele music library! This workshop will cover soprano, concert, and tenor ukuleles. Baritone ukuleles would have to adapt instruction.

Date & Time: Thursday, July 18, 2019 – 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Location: Wisconsin Center for Music Education

Instructor: Will Ulrich

Will Ulrich received his Bachelors Degree from UW-Milwaukee in 1995. In 2011 he earned his Masters Degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Concordia University-Wisconsin. During the summer, Will teaches the World Music Drumming curriculum across the country. Will has been teaching general music in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, since 1997 at the elementary, middle and high school levels. He also teaches World Music and ukulele at Mount Mary University in Milwaukee.

When he is not teaching music, Will enjoys making instruments for the classroom, performing throughout his community, as well as writing and recording music. Will Ulrich facilitates workshops in cooperative teamwork, multiculturalism through music, ukulele, drumming, and instrument building throughout the United States.

An educational collaboration by WSMA and PBS Wisconsin Education

Re/sound: Songs of Wisconsin
In a state-wide survey and listening sessions with music educators, we learned about the need for current, authentic, culturally diverse resources, as well as support in teaching with and about music from different cultures. This multimedia collection for general music programs serving grades 4-8 includes video interviews with Wisconsin musicians, performances, audio files, and educator engagement guides designed to help activate the media with learners.
