WHAT WE LEARNED FROM JARRITT
Jarritt Sheel, one of the great minds behind this workshop since it started in 2020 died suddenly in 2022, but left a strong legacy and shaped our thinking, especially in his expansive view of how hip hop could interface with traditional music education (band, choir, orchestra, jazz, general music). We’ll unpack some of his ideas and his influence.
THE POWER OF THE CYPHER
Featuring Mother Nature, the acclaimed hip hop duo Klevah and Truth (a big hit in our 2022 workshop)
HIP HOP IN THE ORCHESTRA OR BAND ROOM
Step-by-step guide for a project your students will love, for MS or HS.
HIP HOP IN THE ELEMENTARY GENERAL MUSIC ROOM
HIP HOP IN THE CHOIR ROOM
POPPING AND LOCKING

BEGINNING BEATMAKING (DON’T SWEAT THE TECHNIQUE)
Real curriculum for those of you who don’t have a digital lab (i.e. “how to teach beatmaking and composition with just Chromebooks).
SPOKEN WORD ART (with kids playing instruments)
How can we get students in a traditional ensemble setting to go deeper, using hip hop? And how do we engage and encourage them to write lyrics?
Participants have access to recordings of all sessions, plus folders of materials presented.
