Timeline: Nominations for 2024 will open in April. Previous nominees (who were not selected) will automatically be considered in future years.
Purpose: Recognize the contributions made by individuals to the marching activity in Wisconsin and to promote further development of marching activities statewide.
Placement: Plaques recognizing inductees to the WSMA Marching Band Hall of Fame will be placed on a designated wall at the Wisconsin Center for Music Education. Plaques will include the contributions made by inductees as well as short biographical information. Similar information is also available on the WSMA website.
Nomination Process: Teachers, parents, students, administrators and community members are permitted to nominate deserving people to the Hall of Fame. Nominations will be submitted to WSMA and then reviewed by the Marching Band Committee. The Marching Band Committee will submit its recommendations to the WSMA Board of Directors for final approval.
Nominees not selected are included on subsequent years’ ballots; updates to information or additional documentation are accepted and included in the review process.
Award Presentations: The WSMA Marching Band Hall of Fame inductees will be announced and awards presented at the WSMA Marching Band Championships whenever possible. Alternate presentations may be planned based on the needs and extenuating circumstances of the person being inducted. Inductees will receive a plaque similar to the one placed in the Hall of Fame. If the award is given posthumously, it will be given to the spouse or nearest next of kin.
Finances: Expenses related to the WSMA Marching Band Hall of Fame will be taken from the Mike Leckrone Endowment Fund and/or private donations.
Nomination Guidelines: Nominations to the WSMA Marching Band Hall of Fame are open to any person who has made significant contributions to the activity, are no longer actively teaching high school marching activity and may be given posthumously. The nomination includes a description of contributions made to the activity, a short biographical statement, and a written recommendation by the person submitting the nomination. Self-nominations will not be accepted.
