Adjudicator Center

Welcome to the Adjudicator Center, your central source for all necessary information for WSMA adjudicators. This resource, developed through the collaboration of committee members, fellow adjudicators, and WSMA staff, is designed to be your essential guide. We encourage you to use it to provide the best possible constructive and educational experiences for all students participating in WSMA Music Festivals. With your continued assistance, we can ensure a unique and valuable learning experience for these young musicians.

Your role as an adjudicator makes a significant and lasting impact. Thank you for your commitment to WSMA activities and for helping to preserve our proud musical heritage.

General Information

As an adjudicator, you make a significant impact on students and music teachers long after the festival is over. We expect a professional and friendly demeanor throughout the day. To ensure consistent quality, WSMA adjudicators attend training workshops every four years to refresh their skills and review expectations. You are compensated for sharing your expertise and talents with our state’s young musicians.

WSMA’s Mission & Your Role

WSMA festivals exist to improve students’ music performance, increase their understanding of music literature and concepts, and motivate them to continue their musical studies. As a WSMA adjudicator, your role is to:

  • Represent WSMA’s goals and focus.
  • Apply all current WSMA rules and policies.
  • Provide constructive feedback to help students improve.
  • Encourage students to continue their musical development.
  • Help students understand the connection between their festival experience and other life experiences.

An educational collaboration by WSMA and PBS Wisconsin Education

Re/sound: Songs of Wisconsin
In a state-wide survey and listening sessions with music educators, we learned about the need for current, authentic, culturally diverse resources, as well as support in teaching with and about music from different cultures. This multimedia collection for general music programs serving grades 4-8 includes video interviews with Wisconsin musicians, performances, audio files, and educator engagement guides designed to help activate the media with learners.
