Travel Team Program

During the 2018-2019 school year, WSMA piloted a Travel Team program to provide a wider variety of adjudicators to schools in the Northern part of the state. Due to the overwhelming positive feedback received from festival managers, participating teachers and adjudicators, we are offering the Travel Team program to all Northern festivals for the 2021-2022 school year.

Adjudicator Participation:
Adjudicators interested in being a part of a Travel Team for the current school year should submit the form below. Travel Team adjudicators will be asked to travel with one or two other adjudicators, who live within 30 miles of their hometown, to the Northern part of the state to judge two or more festivals scheduled on consecutive days. Mileage reimbursement will be paid to the driver and hotel and meal stipends are provided to each member of the Travel Team.

Adjudicator Availability:
Travel Team adjudicators will need to be available to travel on weekdays and will be asked to stay overnight in a hotel.

Festival Eligibility:
Festivals that are located in the Northern districts and scheduled on consecutive days with a neighboring festival are eligible to apply for a Travel Team. Funding is available for a set number of approved teams. For festivals not selected during that process, a festival could request consideration for a Travel Team where the additional cost will be incurred by the host festival(s).

January 2023
“The Joy of Teaching”

Music educators often deem the “joy of teaching” as their number one reason for entering the profession. From sharing meaningful new ways of connecting with students to celebrating overall successes in and outside the classroom, this issue is all about ways of finding joy (again) as a music educator.

An educational collaboration by WSMA and PBS Wisconsin Education

Re/sound: Songs of Wisconsin
In a state-wide survey and listening sessions with music educators, we learned about the need for current, authentic, culturally diverse resources, as well as support in teaching with and about music from different cultures. This multimedia collection for general music programs serving grades 4-8 includes video interviews with Wisconsin musicians, performances, audio files, and educator engagement guides designed to help activate the media with learners.
