Anthony Cao teaches four curricular choirs, five extra-curricular choirs, and two general music classes at Madison West HS, where he has taught and served as the performing arts department chair since 2004. Passion for hip hop grew from being a fan growing up to playing in the award-winning Neo Soul/Hip Hop group Montage in college to bringing it into the classroom starting in 2011. In recent years he was a featured teacher for University of Wisconsin-Madison’s American Education Week and received the Melvin F. Pontious Creative Sparks in Music Education award from Wisconsin Music Educators Association. Cao received a BM (2002) and MM (2010) in music education from the UW-Madison, where he was awarded a graduate teaching assistantship. Outside of school, Cao stays active as the Chorus Master for Madison Opera and pianist/vocalist at the Ivory Room in Madison.
